“There’s something about the outside of a horse that’s good for the inside of man.” – Winston Churchill

Welcome to HorseSensing!

We are a 9 month minimum residential program where veterans and men in recovery receive treatment for substance abuse while learning a new trade. This is all at no cost to them. We provide for all needs free of charge so the focus can be on healing and progressing to a new permanent path of stability and health. Residents are placed in a good job with the skills and support to succeed for the long term.

This weekend was the Dogwood Horse Show. Our guys and our staff showed up and showed out! We had great weather Thursday and Friday and Saturday was rainy. Rain or shine our HorseSensing guys stepped up, helped each other, got our horses put together in top notch form and got through their first show together! This is the first horse show of the year and definitely the first horse show for our guys, who are all learning to be grooms in the Saddlebred Show Horse Industry.
Thursday we had the Grooms in Hand Class, Sponsored by Betty and Mark Kregor. From 3:45 to about 5:30 all grooms on the show grounds were treated to an excellent dinner with Crave food truck. This was made possible through contributions from the Kregors and Cross Creek Veterinarians, Betty's wonderful sister, Gigi, Susan Shepard, Tim Chadwell, and Lori Richmond.
THANK YOU!!!
Our grooms are truly the backbone of the show horse industries and to have them championed and celebrated in this way is just awesome!
First place in the Grooms in hand class was Julio Villaseñor, 2nd place went to Shelby and God's Gift, and entry from Siren Song Stables and Annika Bruggerworth. 3rd place went to our HorseSensing entry, Daniel and Real Eclipse Material!
We showed three Saddlebreds this weekend that were donated to us by trainers that understand that not all their breeding stock fits with their particular program, or they have too many to get to in a timely manner or they are too small, etc. We are so happy to teach our guys on the horses they donate! We are incredibly proud of "The Strategist", donated by Judy Oettinger, his first time ever in the show ring, earning a 4th and 5th place ribbon in his Country Pleasure Driving Division, Kaluki, Reserve Champion in the Show Pleasure Driving Division,(Donated by Kathy Capsuto, By My Royale Flush) and Blame it on Midnight in the 3 Gaited Country Pleasure division.
If you have a 2, 3 or 4 year old Saddlebred that you may want to donate to our program, give us a call. We teach our guys basic training methods, grooming, medical and more and these horses are essential to their education.
We would like to thank the Shelby County Fair Board for allowing us to hold the grooms class and to bring the food truck for the grooms at the show.
Brady Moore and Don Bridges, trainers for HorseSensing, handled the horses and our guys, teaching, guiding and patiently helping our "green as grass" young grooms with their first taste of the show horse world this weekend. Thank you to you both and all our volunteers that show up and support us!
THANK YOU!!
Next stop Kentucky American Saddlebred Pleasure Horse Association-KASPHA show in May!
